Image of Election Day at LSA

Election Day started early at LSA! After weeks of political education covering how our electoral system works, what the parties (and Fylde's independent candidate) stand for and the importance of exercising your vote, the Polling Station hadn't yet opened when students started arriving to exercise their LSA Right to Vote at 8.25 am!

Turnout was fantastic with over 81% of students choosing to vote and learning exactly what happens when you enter a polling station. From getting their name checked off the Electoral Register, to marking their Ballot Papers in private Polling Booths , sixth form Government & Politics students and LSA staff were on hand to help students understand the process.

Gill Clegg, Assistant Headteacher said "LSA's Election 2015 events have culminated in the most fantastic Election with over 1100 students voting at LSA today. A huge thank you to all the sixth formers whose enthusiasm, intelligence and hard work has helped to make this programme such a success."

Pupils were given the same voting choice as adult voters in the Fylde with their Ballot paper mirroring the real thing. They also had a second ballot paper to vote on a  referendum "Should 16 year olds be allowed to vote?"
So what have LSA's young people decided ?
