Image of LSA Science Club achieve Bronze CREST Awards

CREST is a UK award scheme recognising success, building skills and demonstrating personal achievement in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) project work.  UCAS endorse CREST Awards for inclusion in students’ personal statements – they’re well regarded, high-quality and a tangible recognition of success.  Bronze Awards focus on teamwork and transferable skills. Each student completes around 10 hours of project work.

The LSA Science Club was launched in September 2013 by Miss Wrigley.  Along with help from Peter Hollowell and Lucy Kay, currently in Yr13, the pupils have been working on their Bronze awards after school since November last year.  They have all successfully completed their projects and will now start work on the Silver CREST Award which will see them working together for approximately 40 hours.  They hope to be considered for the Big Bang Regional contest next year with this project!

The students have also been working on a blog and have a twitter account so you can see what they are up to.

The Yr10 students are:
Owen Brown
David Burley
James Houston
Cameron Hughes
Geng Ong
Xin Ong
Lewis Richardson
Shashin Sood

LSA Science Club is split into two separate clubs; upper school meet after school on Thursdays with Lower School meeting on Wednesday lunchtimes. The lower school club has been run by James Cummings, Philip Banner and Peter Hollowell, all Yr13 students. The pupils take part in fun, scientific experiments as well as discuss the science behind what they are doing.  Hopefully, these younger students will progress onto a Bronze CREST award next year.
