Mal Smith continues to combine his teaching at LSATPAC with his 'day job' as Associate Director of Splendid Productions and from Wednesday 19th their current adaptation of Buchner's Woyzeck appears at The Lowry as part of a 6 month UK tour. The piece - which is directed by Mal - has been touring since early September on the back of a hugely successful month at the Edinburgh Fringe where it picked up a host of excellent reviews from theatre critics. In a brief, but very pleasant flashback to his earlier life, Mal also stepped into the title role for a couple of touring weeks whilst their regular Woyzeck took time out for the arrival of his first child.
Mal said, 'It reminded me again how as teachers, we should strive to practice what we preach. The commitment, discipline and sheer
hard work of touring theatre is part of my daily delivery with my students as it's important that they learn the reality of the vocation rather than the 'X-Factor' dream'.
