Image of Sixth Formers Get a Taste of Business Life in the Real World!

Sixth Formers from LSA started the morning with a coffee at Vanilla Café in St Annes, whilst grilling the owners for information for their Business BTEC.  The students are required to investigate how businesses set up and the influence stakeholders have on them; Heather and Savannah Cross, the mother and daughter team behind Vanilla were happy to oblige.  So, over a coffee made with beans that are roasted and ground in Clitheroe, the students asked questions about the impact of suppliers and why locally sourcing was a good business idea.  The students enjoyed the experience and have requested that every Tuesday start this way!

Lisa Fitzpatrick, their Business teacher said “The Business BTEC is such a great qualification as it needs the students to get to grips with the theory and then apply this in a business setting, meaning they develop a strong understanding.  We’re lucky to have local businesses like Vanilla, who are willing to support our students, giving them the information they need to complete their work.  Some of the answers really opened the students’ eyes and I think some were genuinely surprised by the work that goes into a small business.  If other businesses think they can help in any way please contact us.”

Heather said, “It was a pleasure to host the students and it’s great to be able to give something back to the local community.  Having completed business courses myself I know only too well that the theory can be very different to what actually happens so hopefully we’ve given the students something to think about”.
