Four of our Year 13 Politics students took a trip to London to see Parliament in action first hand along with Mrs.Gillian Boulter, Head of Humanities.

The students were able to witness Prime Minister’s Question Time first hand, meet with Mark Menzies, their MP,  and his parliamentary team and also got to observe a very full session in the House of Lords, complete with Alan Sugar spotted “tweeting” on his phone from the Lords benches!

It was a really valuable day where our Yr 13 Politics students saw their studies brought to life. Students got to witness the rough and tumble of PMQs , saw Ministers being questioned in the Lords as well as witnessing an affirmative resolution of delegated legislation and the first reading of a bill in the Lords. Over Lunch they were able to spend time with Mark Menzies  and they thoroughly enjoyed having time to share their views on current issues with their MP who was keen to listen to what the young people had to say" said Gillian Boulter.

Jake Richardson “ We have watched Prime Ministers Questions on the news many times but seeing David Cameron and Ed Miliband debating in person and experiencing the atmosphere in the House of Commons was totally different. We gained such a lot from seeing Parliament at work and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the work of the peers too, from Michael Grade (who tried but failed to get a chance to speak) and Baroness Warsi to Alan Sugar and Baroness Trumpington, one of our favourites from “Have I got news for you”. I would recommend visiting Parliament to every Politics student.”

All four students intend to go on to study some kind of Politics or Law.
