Image of BREAKING NEWS - Lytham Sixth Form College Launch

Dear Parent and Student

Mr Phillip WoodI am writing to you to tell you about an extremely exciting opportunity for our post 16 students from September 2015. By working in partnership with Blackpool and the Fylde College we shall be setting up a sixth form college on our campus by utilizing B&FC's Ansdell site in conjunction with our own post 16 facilities.  Lytham Sixth Form College will offer students the opportunity to study three A Level equivalent BTEC programmes or the facilitating A Levels that gain entrance to the highest achieving universities and graduate careers. By making broad academic and vocational provision available within the same college we will fully cater for the needs, aspirations and abilities of all post 16 students in the community. In addition to offering a broad academic curriculum, Lytham Sixth Form College will offer significant opportunities for students across different programmes to work together on undergraduate themes as part of their studies. We anticipate that this will better prepare our students for the challenges of accessing higher education. B&FC is a Grade 1 Outstanding provider and their vocational, highly skilled expert tutors will complement LSAT&PAC, which is a highly experienced A Level provider with a proven track record and which was, in 2013, the only post 16 A Level provider in the Fylde at which students made more than expected progress. Combining the expertise of two excellent, existing providers will guarantee high quality education and progression routes for all.
.
Additionally, students will benefit from a stand-alone sixth form college experience closer to home, giving them the opportunity to continue academic studies locally, without the need for long travel times. I hope that this combination of curriculum breadth and easily accessible college environment will present our year 12 and year 11 students with a unique and exciting opportunity. As the first students to study in this new college they will be in a position to shape the curriculum provision, the facilities and resources available to them and, of course, the academic reputation of the college. This is a wonderful opportunity for students in this part of the Fylde and particularly for students attending our school.

The Open Evening for Lytham Sixth Form College will be held in the school on Thursday 4th December between 6.00-8.00pm when we will be in a position to say more about this new provision.

Yours faithfully,

P S Wood
