Once again Year 11 student Ben Holmes is in the news.  He attended the 20th National Dwarf Games in Birmingham at the May Bank Holiday and swept the board, arriving home with a clutch of medals - bronze for discus, silver for shot, gold for javelin and gold for team games in hockey and basketball and a bronze for football!  All this inspite of the fact that he has recently undergone another round of gruelling orthopaedic surgery from which he is still recovering.  The fighting spirit which saw Ben nominated as a torchbearer in the Olympics is still evident.

His next big venture is to attend the World Dwarf Games in Michigan in August as part of Team GB.  It will be the largest sporting event in history which is exclusively for athletes with dwarfism.  Moreover, for Ben, this is the first time he has ever been abroad!  He will have a lifetime opportunity to meet up with hundreds of people with dwarfism from all around the world.

Ben said "Taking part in the games was amazing and the idea of going to America and competing with dwarfs from all over the world is brilliant.  The association started in 1993 and is now massive "

People are rallying round to support Ben and his trip to Michigan .  A raffle has been organised in school with lots of local businesses offering prizes.  We would like to thank them for their support.  So far...The Blossoms, The Fairhaven, Kaos, Pleasure Beach, The Sandcastle , Silk Lashes Lytham St.Tanz.
