Image of Girl Literacy Power

For the past three months a group of high-flying Year 11 students have been working to encourage improved literacy skills across the school. They have created resources, like a grammatical globe which gives valuable tips in an interactive way, planned assemblies and even made a video set against green screens highlighting the benefits of reading (CARIE - communication, applicable to other subjects, relaxation, intelligence and entertainment) and have a little mascot with the same name.

The girls (no boys volunteers the first time round but will be targeted next year) have been actively involved in working in the library on the Buddy Reading Scheme and offering assistance in classrooms.

Joanne Cook (16) said "This has been an excellent opportunity to develop our own skills in literacy whilst assisting others "

Adam Prescott (Literacy Co-ordinator) said .  This has been of great benefit to the school and the girls have done a wonderful job, exceeding all expectations.  Next School Year we hope to expand on the scheme with further volunteers, including male ones!  The way has been paved now and its development will be of great value to the whole school."
