The school was excited to have the YA author Non Pratt visit to deliver workshops, and impressed with the level of organisation and prep she put into planning the day.
Obviously these students are not her immediate target audience, but she didn't mind one bit. The workshops were well thought out, engaging, practical and got all the students thinking about character creation via the very clever use of a deck of cards and a collection of characters from television, films and books who students had to unpick, ponder, debate, invert and write about. The students said that they felt really involved and I have to say the whole day went really, really well. I don't know if it is Non's considerable experience as an editor that made the difference, but the pace and energy of the sessions was pitched just perfectly for the children.
