Image of Year 10 Food Students Get Straight Back to Practical Learning

We hope everyone had a great New Year. Our students have wasted no time getting back into learning, with Year 10 Food students starting the term with an engaging and hands-on practical lesson.

The focus of the session was learning how to butcher a whole chicken, an important skill that supports both real-world cooking knowledge and GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition requirements. The lesson began with a clear demonstration from Mrs Gittings, who talked students through each stage of the process before they had the opportunity to practise the techniques themselves.

Students showed great focus and confidence as they applied what they had learned, developing knife skills, food preparation techniques, and a deeper understanding of how food is prepared from source to plate. These skills will play an important role in their upcoming practical GCSE assessments, as well as giving them valuable knowledge they can use beyond the classroom.

It was a brilliant, practical way to start the new term and a great example of our commitment to preparing students with skills that are useful both academically and in everyday life.
