Image of Year 10 Take Part in Life Skills Awareness Morning

This week, our entire Year 10 cohort took part in an important Personal Development morning focused on alcohol safety, drug awareness, and violence prevention. The event forms part of our statutory PSHE curriculum and is designed to equip students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices as they move through their teenage years.

Throughout the morning, students rotated through three impactful sessions delivered by external specialists:

  • Alcohol Awareness
This session explored what a unit of alcohol is, the potential risks of drinking, and how to stay safe in social settings. A simulated nightclub experience helped students understand how to manage peer pressure and look after themselves and others when out in public.

  • Every Action Has Consequences
A powerful and emotional session centred on the ripple effects of violence, encouraging students to consider the long-term impact of their actions and adopt a mindset rooted in respect and non-violence.

  • Amy Winehouse Foundation
This workshop focused on drug abuse, addiction, and recovery. Delivered with honesty and compassion, it encouraged students to consider the importance of mental health, making positive choices, and living a healthy lifestyle.

At LSA, we believe it’s vital to have open, age-appropriate conversations about these real-life issues before students are likely to encounter them. By addressing these topics early in a safe and supportive environment, we aim to help students make thoughtful, informed decisions and develop lifelong resilience.

The feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are proud of the maturity and respect they showed during the sessions.

We would like to thank the Amy Winehouse Foundation, Every Action Has Consequences, and Talk About Trust for delivering such powerful and engaging sessions — and to our staff for supporting this important morning.
