So Much to Celebrate!

There was much to celebrate when former Year 11 students gathered for Presentation Evening, receiving their certificates from Olympic silver medallist  Samantha Murray. With combined scores of 96.5 A to C and 60% A including English and Maths with 14.1 A Grades (twice the National average) the theme of the evening was 'success'.

Modern Pentathlon winner, Samantha, a 'Lancashire Lass'  who  achieved the very last medal in the Olympics, told the students of her comprehensive and university education and her gruelling training and tenacity which led to her brilliant achievement.  She said "As a young Lancashire girl I had a dream and the challenge was to change this into reality.  Perseverance, determination and self belief were the qualities which led to realising that dream. "

Philip Wood, Headteacher said " We are grateful to Samantha for spending this time with us.  We hope the echo of the examination successes of our students in the summer,  and memories of the  wonderful Olympic Games, will live on as messages to guide our  students to future challenges."

Head Boy, Greg Anderton, said  "This evening has been a brilliant opportunity for our students to be inspired by a young athlete as they move on to the next steps in life."
