GCSE Physics

What is Physics?

Physics is the study of the World around you, looking at the processes and mechanisms by which practically everything around you works.

The scope of physics is much wider than the other sciences, it allows us to study things as large as the universe and as small as sub atomic particles. The applications of physics are diverse and practically boundless, it is a fascinating subject to study.

What Will I study?

Over the two years of a GCSE Physics course you will study:

The Earth and space.
Waves, Energy and the Electromagnetic spectrum
Energy usage and our needs
Forces and Motion
Electricity
Space, the Unviverse and Further Physics.

What Next?

Studying Physics will provide you with excellent opportunity to develop skills that will prepare you for A level physics and the other Sciences, It also gives you skills which will transfer to a wide range of A level courses, it can teach you to look at problems analytically helping develop your problem solving skills, it also helps develop your mathematical skills.

A Level Physics

What is Physics?

Physics is the study of the World around you, looking at the processes and mechanisms by which practically everything around you works.
No other science has the scope of physics, physics studies the vastness of the universe as well as the sub atomic particles within atoms.
Physics is essentially the study of matter, energy, force and motion, which can challenge our imagination and lead to world-changing discoveries such as lasers and computers.

At Lytham Sixth Form we currently study the AQA Physics A specification

All students will study A level physics over two years with exams at the end of this period of study.

What Will I study?

The First Year:
In the first year you will study the fundamental aspects of physics, the modules studied include:

The Second Year:
In the second year of A level physics you will go on study more challenging areas of physics, applying the fundamental concepts you learnt in year 12.
The topics you study will include:

What Next?

Studying Physics will provide you with excellent opportunity to develop skills that will transfer to a wide range of University courses.
The career opportunities are not limited to these as many of our students have left LSA 6th form college and progressed to degrees in a wide variety of subjects including, Physics, Mathematics, Biomedical sciences, pupils have also gone on to study medicine after studying an AS or A level physics

Entry Requirements
