Curie College is named after a famous female scientist called Marie Curie who discovered radiation and developed the very first X-rays. In becoming one of the world’s most important scientists Marie Curie had to excel at education and persevere against great opposition to achieve her dreams. It is because of these qualities that our college was named after her as she provides for us all a role model both at school and in our everyday life. One of Marie Curie’s famous statements I think we should all take to heart and use as a guide in every challenge we face is: 'Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perserverance and above all, confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and this thing must be attained.'
As a member of Curie College you will be part of a family that is there to support you and help you to achieve the best that you can do. Your tutors will be there with you every day and be the first person you go to for help and advice. They will be with you throughout your school life through the various challenges you will face over the next few years.
Curie College's Leader is Andrea Lavelle who is here not only to support your tutors but to also to provide extra support and guidance for you when and if you need it.
As well as helping you in your school work our college is not just about work, it’s also about being part of a family within the school. Throughout the year there will be all sorts of competitions and activities for you to get involved in. Whether you’re a sporty person or into drama or quizzes or just want to take part or help out there will be something for you. It’s all about taking part and getting involved and getting the best out of school.
“Nothing in life is to be feared it is only to be understood”
