What does the nursing team do?
School nursing teams promote the health and wellbeing of all school-age children and their families. They work with health, education, social services and voluntary agencies.
The team provide confidential pupil drop-in clinics in high schools. The days and times of these are advertised by the school. This allows you or your child the opportunity to discuss any concerns or worries you may have regarding your health.
Each school nursing team is led by a specialist school nurse practitioner. Here at LSA, the nurse practitioner is Lee Dawson, available in the school nurses office in the Sixth Form Block.
Health Promotion and Education.
School nurses deliver a range of health promotional programmes to pupils within education settings in a variety of different ways. This can be through classroom teaching including drama, role play, one to one, health events and parents evenings. Health messages are delivered in an interesting and fun way that is age appropriate. Nurses are able to provide students with individual advice on a variety of health issues such as managing medical conditions in school, healthy lifestyles, behaviour and relationships, growth and development and many more.
During a pupils time at LSA, they will be offered routine vaccinations. These will take place in school and will be delivered by the immunisation team.
The school nursing team have a duty to keep information confidential. They are often the first point of contact for young people.
