Lancashire Police attended our school on Friday 24th May and Friday 14th June to promote their knife crime campaign 'Choose Life, not the knife' to our Year 9s and 10s.

PC Matthew Lee presented a very informative presentation which included the dangers of carrying a knife supported by lots of alarming facts and about the law relating to knife crime.

- If you carry a knife you could go to prison for 4 years.

- You don't have to have your hand on a knife to be convicted for murder. If you are with the person responsible you could be found guilty due to 'Joint Enterprise'.

- The most at risk age group across the country are boys and men ages 14 - 24.

- In Lancashire the average age of knife crime offenders is 17 and the average age of victims is 16.

- 8 out of 10 people who get attacked with a knife know their attacker.

- Most knife crime occurs in the street and involves alcohol.

- 7 out of 10 young people who end up in A&E with a knife injury have been stabbed with their own knife, carrying a blade puts you at risk.

At the end of the assembly students were given details of the many organisations, which they could contact should they be concerned either for themselves or for others such as ChildLine, trusted, nest lancashire, crime stoppers and Lancashire Police.
