A student has just won the world championships for his age group (age 12 -13) in Karate.
He has been competing in different countries over the past few months such as Finland on the 16th September where he came 4th (just missing out on a bronze medal) and competing in the Uk championships in Barnsley on the 7th October where he got through to the final, coming second place.
He did amazing in Madrid at The 2' CIKA Leal International Championships and it was quite possibly the best he has competed yet. He won bronze in Kata and gold in kumite giving him the Cika (Champions International Karate Association) world champion title (age 12-13).
Kata means "form" and it is a pattern of movements practiced in sole or in pairs whilst maintaining a perfect form. Kumite means "grappling hands" and it is where a person trains against adversary, using techniques learned from Kihon and Kata.
His form tutor Mr Smith said "We are really proud. There aren't many tutor groups who can boast a World Champion in their ranks. His achievement is a great reward for his hours of hard work and preparation and his quiet and modest attitude to his Karate successes are exactly what his teachers would expect in a martial arts expert."
