Year 11 student Ammie Shipton has been recognised for her exceptional performance in GCSE Art and Design. During the two year course Ammie has shown an outstanding commitment and passion for Art and has produced an extensive, creative and highly skilled portfolio of work. Her work has covered a broad range of medium and explored extensive subject matter from her love of dance to producing a set of work, inspired by her school visit to Krakow, based on the holocaust and Anne Frank.
Ammie’s work will be exhibited in the LSA main foyer during the summer term. We hope you are able to visit and can enjoy what is a remarkable and inspirational body of work.

"At the start of the course art was one of my many interests and throughout the two years it has developed rapidly and become an important part of what defines me, and is something in which I hope to peruse in the future.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the course as it has given me the chance to explore new techniques and develop my ideas whilst working with a wide range of materials to make my response to each and every topic personal and unique.

The course has allowed me to generate pieces of work with powerful messages or sentiments in which words cannot explain. Each and every one of my pieces has provided me with a place of relaxation whilst creating something beautiful. My work is a physical representation of an emotional journey in which I expressed though paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces in the style of certain artists which I personally studied and the ones we studied as a class.

I have acquired a set of skills over the course which enabled me to create pieces of art in relation to other subjects, in order to help me revise and develop my knowledge in other subjects whilst doing something I love for example learning my French controlled assessment.

Painting is my strongest area, as I was inspired by the 6th form canvases I saw being created in the Art department. I decided to create one of my own and did a self-portrait which reflected my dancing background and the time I have dedicated to this. I am looking forward to continuing with the creative courses Art, Photography and Media Studies next year at LSF." - Ammie Shipton.
